I have been a professional photographer for hire since
1993 when I got my first business license from the city of Reno, Nevada.
I have done all kinds of work in the Carson City area before that.
I worked in photojournalism as a photojournalist and photography editor in
both Carson City and Sparks, Nevada. The newspaper gave me experience
shooting and providing great pictures of sports, events, politics,
and people. While doing that I was going to college and shooting weddings
for my friends and family. I have always been available to shoot weddings.
I love to be a part of a good party or event!
While living in Reno, Nevada, I was studying photography
from both the photojournalist side as well as the artistic side. I
got my minor in journalism. While at UNR, I took a few art classes at the
same time. I learned a lot about lighting and composition.
After graduation I worked for several studios in the
Reno and Sparks area. I was able to learn about posing both individuals
and groups. At one studio, we shot tons of memory mates. Memory
mates include shooting both individuals and groups then putting the shots
together in a handy nicely framed shot that can be used as a gift or whatever.
I shot for schools and organizations of all sorts. I have shot people
of all ages. I have spent time shooting babies, pre-school kids, elementary
school kids, high school and senior portraits, college graduations all the
way up to grandmas and grandpas.
At another studio I was able to learn the commercial side
of photography. I learned all kinds of things about advertising, public
relations, portraiture and fashion photography. I worked with several
public relations and advertising agencies for both local and national accounts.
Promoting and promotions is what it is all about. While at that studio I
shot a lot of models as well as developed a few models for a modeling career.
I supplied them with the basic glamour and casual photographs for putting
together a portfolio or zed card composite. I started a stock photography
program and tried to develop it for the internet.
Providing photography services is what I enjoy doing.
Service should be the name of the game. Photography is something that
takes continual study, practice and effort. Things change in fashion.
Advertising concepts fluctuate and art is a constant quest. Experience
counts but no matter how much I study I'll never consider myself an experienced
photographer. After all, life is an experience and the experience
is what it is all about for me.
I practice the art of portraiture but I also enjoy
a good snap shot. I love doing commercial art and seeing my photographs published
for advertising purposes.
Freelance photography keeps me up with the challenges
of location photography. I love to travel and explore new places. We
call them field trips. Doing studio photography helps me maintain and
manipulate control over lighting.
Weddings and wedding photography is by far the most
challenging and most rewarding for me as a photographer. Weddings allow
for the use of my photo journalistic abilities. Photojournalism presents
life the "way it was."
Models and modeling, fashion photography and glamour photography
is by far the most fun for me. I enjoy people photography. Usually,
the models enjoy working with the camera.
I've won numerous awards and published literally thousands of photos.
As a Photographer, I aspire to excel through experimentation
and objective
criticism.
